When the pandemic began, Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam found himself unable to create, as uncertainty and fear paralyzed his songwriting for over two years. A turning point came when he recorded the Lori EP with Matt Ross-Spang, rekindling his passion for making music. This led to solo “Back to Basics” shows, a collaborative tour with Andrew Bird, and ultimately the inspiration to write Light Verse. Beam assembled a Los Angeles-based group of musicians, including Fiona Apple, and recorded with engineer Dave Way, crafting an album born from joy after the pandemic’s heaviness. Lyrically, Light Verse blends fiction and personal insights with humor, heartache, and optimism, embracing beauty over prettiness. Set for release on April 26th via Sub Pop, it stands as Iron & Wine’s most playful and self-assured work to date.
Tickets: $48/$62/$76

(Master Naturalist Advanced Training) Nestled in a rich forest in the heart of the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, this small waterfall and scenic red quartzite canyon has remarkable cultural and natural history significance. Pipestone deposits occurring within the hard quartzite have been mined for centuries by various tribes inhabiting the region. Geologically, being atop one of the northernmost of the Blue Hills, the canyon tells the story of a lofty mountain range eroding away in ages gone by. Sturdy footwear is recommended due to the rough, uneven terrain. Along the way we will also be making two other stops of cultural and geological significance.
Meet at the Cable Natural History Museum at 10 a.m., carpool to the field location, and finish by 3:30 p.m. You don’t have to be a certified Master Naturalist to participate! Any adult learners are welcome. Space is limited. Register by July 7. $35 member/$45 non-member.
For those of you coming from the north, we will meet in front of the Cable Natural History Museum. For those to the south, we will come down and meet you in the L & M Fleet Supply parking lot in Hayward.

Michael Monroe presents" You've Got A Friend", featuring the music of James Taylor
Fri, 18 Jul 20257:30 pm - 9:30 pm The Park Center, 15791 US-63, Hayward, WI 54843, USA
Featured performers: Michael Monroe Vocals/Acoustic Guitar, Tony Axtell Bass/Vocals, Dan Thayer Electric Guitar, Michael Pilhofer Drums/Vocals.
“Minnesota’s acoustic music master” (Jon Bream, Star Tribune) and Emmy Award-winning acoustic tunesmith, Michael Monroe, presents an evening of favorite tunes by folk/pop singer-songwriter James Taylor. “You’ve Got A Friend” is the first song Monroe sang professionally in ’72 at Asbury Park in NJ for 4,000 attending the music fest. Expect to hear the best of James Taylor with songs like “Fire & Rain,” “Shower The People,” “Carolina On My Mind,” “Traffic Jam,” “September Grass,” “Terra Nova,” “Secret of Life,” “Blossom,” “Sunny Skies,” “Sweet Baby James,” “October Road” and of course, “You’ve Got A Friend.” Taylor has always been a huge inspiration to Michael and a perfect fit for The Park Center.
From vinyl to digital, Monroe is celebrating his 50th year performing acoustic music for his profession. He plays hand-crafted Seaton guitars made of 200 year-old reclaimed wood from the bottom of Lake Superior. His rich vocals and crystal/bamboo flutes showcase his signature mellifluous sound.

Founding members Moody, Mehta, and Masse continue to push their musical boundaries, earning critical acclaim for their recordings and live performances. In 2017, to celebrate their 15th anniversary, they released Fifteen, a collection of favorite songs recorded with longtime collaborators Richard Moody and Adam Dobres, showcasing their signature harmonies and refined arrangements. The album was nominated for a Juno Award for Traditional Roots Album of the Year in 2018. Currently, The Jennys are on tour and road-testing new material for an upcoming studio album.
