The Seeley Hills Classic is the second largest annual cross country ski event on the American Birkebeiner Trail.  The 46K race is a qualifying race for the American Birkebeiner.

The ski race starts at 10:00 am. at the American Birkebeiner Trailhead in Cable, WI.  A high school and middle school race is also part of this event. The 46K race will ski south on the Birkie Skate Trail, turn around at OO, and return north on the Classic Trail. The 20K race will ski south on the Birkie Skate Trail to the Highpoint, then make its way back to the American Birkebeiner Trailhead on the Classic Trail.

This Lions Club Fundraiser and FUN race has no equal when it comes to preparing one mentally and physically for the American Birkebeiner. In other words, once you have completed the Pre-Birkie you will have the confidence to take on the mother of all XC marathon races, the American Birkebeiner.

Every skier will receive a special Pre-Birkie sweatshirt and all skiers who pre-register prior to Jan 15 will get their sweatshirt at the spaghetti feed/late registration or on race day late registration at the VFW. Come and enjoy the day with the Hayward Lions at our Pre-Birkie the “Best Birkie prep race in the Midwest”.

Walleyes for Northwest Wisconsin accomplishes this by supporting conservation practices, focus on water quality, improving our fish habitat by involvement with weed control projects and working with the WDNR as needed to accomplish mutual goals.

The Annual Fishing Event where FHNB takes 100-150 people fishing on Friday & Saturday on the Chippewa Flowage. These are two jam-packed days filled with friends, fishing, evening meals and lots of fun!

CANCELED FOR 2020

After exploring various options and considering a number of factors, our Hayward Area Chamber of Commerce has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Musky Festival due to the uncertainties associated with the current pandemic and the gathering of large groups. The health, safety and well-being of the Hayward area community, festival attendees, participants, sponsors, volunteers and staff have remained our top priorities as we have monitored the COVID-19 situation.

While we are saddened by this news, it has also reminded us how extremely fortunate we are to live in an area that offers an abundance of options to enjoy, even in the incredible times we find our world in. Shopping within our small businesses can be done safely and our local restaurant take-out options are endless. Taking the boat out on the lake and breathing in the pure Northwoods air is still as refreshing as it gets. Exploring our abundant trail systems is social distancing at its best – and way, way before the term was en vogue. The fact of the matter is, it’s being proven that our Northwoods life is as resilient as they come and for that, we are grateful.

Even with uncertainty in the world, we know how determined our community is to move ahead to make the very best of the days, weeks and months to come, and that is absolutely what is going to happen. It will simply not include large festivals for the time being. We look forward to coming together for next year’s 71st Musky Festival scheduled for June 25-27, 2021. In the meantime, we know that all will find ways to safely enjoy our beautiful ‘Neck’ of the Woods as we lift one another up!

2020 LCO HONOR THE EARTH HOMECOMING CELEBRATION AND POWWOW is canceled. Instead we are planning a one day online version. More information and community input will be sought and given after Wednesday, May 20. Tribal council and the Pow Wow committee regret canceling however our lives matter and we will still do honor towards why we have HTE every year. Stay tuned and perhaps we will have our Facebook HTE page back up and running very soon. We are looking forward to a great LCO VETERANS powwow and/or New Year's celebration. Miigech.

2020 EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

Proudly sponsored by the Grand View Volunteer Fire Department in conjunction with their Annual Homecoming Picnic weekend, the Firehouse 50 is a bicycle road race of 50.5 miles beginning and ending in Grand View, Wisconsin. This wonderfully scenic race takes you on blacktop roads winding through the pristine Chequamegon National Forest around Lake Namakagon and Lake Owen. This is also a full weekend of music, food, and fun, including: Ride the Divide, a shortened version of the Firehouse 50, individual or team time trials that let you tackle the course at your own pace, a 15K and 2-Mile Fun Run, live music, concessions, beer stand, a raffle and games for all, and a variety of merchandise and clothing to browse.

The Gitche Gumee Gran Fondo is a mass-start cycling event in the spirit and tradition of the great Italian cyclosportives. Launched in 2017, riders gathered at the start in one of the Midwest's most popular vacation destination towns of Hayward, Wisconsin to embark on an adventure route through the northern Wisconsin forests to the historic fishing village of Bayfield, Wisconsin.

The ride will start in Hayward, Cable or Drummond depending on your ride route and wind along 100, 80 or 60 miles of scenic, paved Wisconsin back-country roads, several river crossings, and traverses the Continental Divide. The ride starts at 8 am in Hayward and finishes on Bayfield’s Lake Superior shoreline. Return-Transportation provided; Cyclists of all abilities/ages welcome!

To enthusiastic off-road bicyclists from across the country, the annual trek to the Chequamegon Mountain Bike Festival presented by Trek means fat tire racing and fat tire fun. Each year in mid-September, thousands of mountain bikers descend on the towns of Cable and Hayward in northwestern Wisconsin to take on the off-road bicycle tests of endurance and agility offered throughout the weekend.

The Birkie Trail Run Festival will start & finish at the American Birkebeiner Trailhead, in Cable, WI!  The nine events will traverse the rolling hills and twists & turns of the famous Birkie Trail, as well as single-track sections of the CAMBA trail system.  You’ll see beautiful vistas from atop Mt. Telemark, run by crisp cool waters, all amidst the beautiful forests of northwest Wisconsin.  The Birkie Trail Run Festival has a friendly north woods vibe, awesome Vendor Fair, a finish-line party with hot lunch, cold Earth Rider craft beer, root beer, on-site camping, bonfires, and much more.  Make it a weekend of fun with family and friends!  If you love to run on a great trail in the midst of nature, this is the event to put on your calendar NOW. The Hayward Fall Festival is an annual tradition that celebrates the changing of the seasons with fine art & craft booths, sidewalk sales, wonderful food vendors, a brat, beer and wine tent, kids activities and live music in downtown Hayward. Relay for Life of Sawyer County also hosts a 5K Run/Walk - visit their website to register! Thousands of people from all over help our area celebrate during this one-day event.

The fall colors won't be the only things bursting to life this fall. The Cable Area Fall Fest, held annually the last weekend of September, offers visitors of every age entertaining opportunities sure to make this your favorite festival of the year. Cornstalks, hay bales, and pumpkins line the roads throughout the Cable community. Live music, car, motorcycle and truck show, arts and crafts vendors, and incredible food vendors fill the streets all for your enjoyment.

Stone Lake hosts over 30,000 guests on this day of festivities and fun. Our volunteer festival staff will be ready to serve you by taking care of all the details of the event.  The cranberry marshes will be ready once again to show off their operations for they have much to boast about.  On the first Saturday in October Over 300 vendors, artisans, crafters, food and hospitality areas will be ready to take good care of you.

Because of continued support from wonderful people like you, over the last three years alone our organization donated over $100,000 to local area youth and non-profit organizations in Sawyer and Washburn Counties.  Your support made this happen. THANK  YOU AND HOPE TO SEE YOU AT THE FEST!!!!

Founded in 2010, A "Lure" of Lights makes Hayward shine even brighter because it paints the downtown in lights. Families visit the area to create new memories and holiday traditions.  Each year A "Lure" of Lights strives to create family-centered events, parades, light shows, and contests that draw visitors to the area to experience the true beauty of Hayward and become a destination during the holiday season.  A "Lure" of Lights is solely run by the Downtown Business Improvement District, volunteers and funded through donations.
