CNHM Field Trip: Blue Hills Felsenmeer
CNHM Field Trip: Blue Hills Felsenmeer
Wed, 01 Oct 2025 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
Cable Natural History Museum, 13470 Co Hwy M, Cable, WI 54821, USA
Hiking the Blue Hills Felsenmeer, a State Scientific & Natural Area, is the closest thing to being in the alpine zone! Cold air emanates from the pink quartzite talus all summer long, sustaining a lichen & moss community normally found much farther north. We will hike down what is locally known as the "box canyon," a magical fern-enveloped cleft, and come backup the base of the felsenmeer, which means "sea of rock." This hike requires good mobility. Please bring a sack lunch. For those of you coming from the north, we will meet at 9:00 am in front of the Cable Natural History Museum and carpool to the field site. Forthose to the south, if you make arrangements, we can meet you in the L & MFleet Supply parking lot in Hayward around 9:30. You don’t have to be a certified Master Naturalist to participate! Any adult learners are welcome. Space is limited. Register by September 28. $35 member/$45 non-member.
For information and registration, visit cablemuseum.org/events or call 715-798-3890.
