Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center in Ashland is hosting a Saturday of Winter Family Fun!

At noon, families will enjoy a short winter film with refreshments followed by crafts and a ranger-led snowshoe hike! This is a free, drop-in event. No registration required. As always, we have snowshoes available to use on the property for free.

FiddleFestReturns in 2026 for a Day of Music, Dance, and Fun

Get readyto kick off the New Year with an unforgettable celebration of bluegrass,old-time stringband, and Americana music. This annual event, presented by WOJB Radio, Superior Tech Services,and Northwest Wisconsin’s TrueGrass Band, promises a full day of liveperformances, old-time dances (with dances taught and called), and jam sessionsin the heart of the north woods.

FiddleFest2026 features a fiddler’s feast of a lineup, with Annie & The Oakleys, BluKanu, Rozie Daze, Kim Ritchie & Squirrel Cage, Scott & ChristinaMcLewin, The Fifth String, The Northwoods Strings, plus special guest dancecallers Wade Pearson and Allison Jonjak, and of course TrueGrass. WOJB Radio’sJeff Jones will serve as the event’s Master of Ceremonies, and theater soundwill be provided by Superior Tech Services.

Threeperformance areas will operate throughout the day. There will be stageperformances in the Sawmill Theater, old-time dances (with dances taught andcalled) in the upstairs dance hall, and intimate acoustic concerts in thecoffee shop. In addition to the performances, there will be informal jamsessions in various locations, plus food and drink specials in the SawmillSaloon restaurant.

Absinthe is a down-to-earth, classic Jazz & Blues cover band with some unique originals thrown in there. The trio is comprised of Mark Rossow on vocals/jazz guitar, Adam Staupe on upright bass, and Emily Robertson on vocals. These three formed a friendship & musical collaboration after many open mics & shin digs at The Snug, a gem of an Irish Pub on the beautiful Lake Superior shores of Washburn Wisconsin. From R&B to Appalachian Bluegrass to Baroque Choral, they came together from varying genre backgrounds in musical performance. The winding, wooded Atomic 42K classic and 22K classic ski race is the second-largest annual cross-country ski event held on the American Birkebeiner Trail.

The race is an American Birkebeiner qualifying race.

We’ve had a great start to the winter and are anticipating a great Seeley Hills Classic on the traditional course. Good classic tracks can already be found on a large portion of the Birkie Trail. It’s the best start to winter that we’ve seen for awhile! Sign up now make the most of the season!

The 2026 Tipper Tourney hosted at Pat’s Landing Resort will be held on January 10, 2026. Fishing hours are from 8AM to 4PM, with all fish required to be registered no later than 4:30PM at Pat’s Landing Bar & Grill. Open to all ages and skill-levels.

Registration: $25 fee per entrant. Register at Pat’s Landing Bar & Grill prior to event. Day of event
registration available before 10AM and based on availability. Prizes: All prizes will be awarded at Pat’s Landing Bar & Grill once all fish have been registered and recorded. Entrants MUST be present to win.

• Placement Prizes: Longest Large-Mouth Bass, Longest Northern, Shortest Northern.
• Random Cash Prizes: Entrants will receive a ticket for every fish registered in the tournament for a chance to win a random cash drawing. Each entrant is only eligible for ONE cash prize (for example, if an entrant is drawn for a cash prize any subsequent draws for the same entrant is forfeited).

Join the next Live! from North Woods and Waters event for special guest Lori Taguma, an independent producer and writer, and enrolled member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibway (LCO) located east of Hayward, WI.

In conversation with author Thomas Wayne King, Lori will share the story of the LCO Band’s evolution as told by her mother, Sylvia Bradklin-Baker, in her book, “From Suppression to Sovereignty; the 1970’s-1980’s, on the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Reservation.” Published in 2017 when Sylvia was in her 70s, the book documents the changes she witnessed from 1965 to 2009 while she worked for the LCO.

The title says it all and they have the lineup to make it happen. Join the BCO as they “release the hounds” in an unrestrained night of music designed to make you dance, dance, dance. In addition to “Rockin’ Molly Otis”, “Shredding James Shafstall”, “Groove master Nate Bean”, Thundering Tom Mitchell and the Hendrix style cello player Ed Willett, they’ll be “spiking the already strong punch” with the “Godchild of Soul” himself, Scott Kirby. A Day to Explore the Trails at Your Own Pace!

The weather might be cold, but the Hub will be warm! Ski a marked 5k loop at your own pace with a visit to the historic Ullr Hytte Cabin along the way! After you’re done skiing, enjoy the company of your friends and fellow skiers with lunch and drinks at the Hub! Let’s celebrate winter skiing together, despite the cold.
